Abstract

Pure Hampshire and Crossbred (Hampshire X Khasi local) boar semen have been preserved with BTS extender at 24°C. The effect on morphological characteristics like initial motility, live percentage and Acrosomal Integrity with different hours of preservation have been studied. Initial motility found to be optimum after 24 hours but significant difference (p<0.05) observed between hours and within the breed. However, there was no significance difference between breeds. Similar trends noticed with other parameters like Live percentage and Acrosomal integrity. In all the cases 24 hours of preservation with BTS diluent provides better and optimal morphological characteristics. Ascorbic acid added as antioxidant seems to have reduced reactive oxygen species and thereby sperm damage.
