The integration between research, theory and practice is integral in the field of Health Psychology. The ability to conduct and understand research, to be able to test hypotheses, evaluate approaches and theoretical models and then apply these findings to clinical practice is as essential as it is challenging for both professionals and trainees. The current book aims to provide some useful guidelines on how to conduct evidence based practice in different settings and through different means. It also discusses the biopsychosocial model, which lies at the heart of Health Psychology, and its role in health and illness. The book delves in issues such as stress and pain management and focuses on important contemporary issues in health today, such as stigma and the role of the health care professionals in promoting public health. Health psychology is a relatively new field and health psychologists can work in a wide range of settings; it is our hope that this book can provide students, trainees and professionals with a clear insight in the field of health psychology and with helpful guidance on how to develop, implement and evaluate health behaviour change interventions.
