Abstract

The present investigation on Field efficacy of selected insecticides against thrips (Scirtothrips dorsalis) infesting tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) in district Namakkal (Tamil Nadu) was carried out at agricultural land at Mallasamudram, Namakkal district(Tamil nadu) in year 2020-2021 during rabi season. The experiment laid in RBD with seven treatments and one controlled plot, each were replicated thrice. On the basis of the effectiveness of different treatments against tomato thrips, the mean efficacy of the different treatments after spray revealed that spinosad 45SC @ 125 ml/ha found to be significantly superior against thrips (1.13 thrips/3 leaves/plant). The next best treatment was flonicamid 50WG (1.18 thrips/3 leaves/plant) followed by imidacloprid 17.8SL (1.22 thrips/3leaves/plant), fipronil 5SC(1.35 thrips/3 leaves/plant), thiamethoxam 25WG(1.41 thrips/3 leaves/plant), acetamiprid 20SP (1.60 thrips/3 leaves/plant ). Cypermethrin 25 EC was least effective recording 1.77 thrips per 3 leaves per plant. All the treatments were significantly superior over the control which recorded highest thrips population (3.40 thrips /3 leaves).
